Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill feels beating Leeds United on Saturday would stand his side in good stead for the rest of the season.

With both teams in the Championship playoff spots, there is a buzz surrounding the game at Ashton Gate, with Bristol City releasing a statement on Wednesday stating that ticket sales for the weekend’s game have surpassed the 23,000 mark and that the crowd is now guaranteed to be the largest for the Robins this season.

On their last visit to Ashton Gate in the 2016/17 campaign, Leeds were edged out 1-0; Bristol City lost 2-1 at Elland Road earlier in the term.

And Brownhill, who thinks his side were unlucky to return home empty handed from Elland Road last season, is of the opinion that the Robins will be able to kick on with a win over the Yorkshire giants on Saturday.

"I remember them being a good team”, he said on bctv.

“They have strength throughout their squad, there's no doubt about that, and it's a great club.

“But I remember we were unlucky to not come away from that game with something.

"We weren't in great form around that time, but we are in a better place now.

“They've had some good results, but we are in great form too.

"I think the Leeds game will be different, compared to Burton last week.

“They'll want to win the game as much as we will.

“If they want to be up at the top of the Championship like we do then these are the games you have to win.

“I think we'll put out a good performance as we did on Friday although we lacked quality at times but overall it was a good performance.

"A win for us will be massive.

“We've taken points against clubs where we probably shouldn't have, like Derby at home which was massive, and this is the same.

“Leeds are a great team with great history, great players and to beat a team like that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season and help us kick on."

While Bristol City are currently fourth in the Championship table with 21 points from 12 games, Leeds are two places and a point behind.
