Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay admits that he is grateful to Jose Mourinho for showing faith in him this season.

McTominay made his league debut for Manchester United towards the end of last season and has been a regular part of the senior squad in the current campaign.

The Scot also signed a new four-year contract with the club earlier in the week and admits Mourinho's faith in him has been a huge thing during his time with the senior squad.

Asked about enjoying the manager’s confidence, McTominay told MUTV: “That has been a big thing for me.

“The faith that he has shown in me and the games he has played me in has been brilliant.

McTominay made his Champions League debut against Benfica on Wednesday and admits it was an unbelievable experience to play in that kind of atmosphere.

The young midfielder is keen to play in more such big games in Europe and in England as he feels it is only going to hasten his development as a footballer.

“It was an unbelievable experience as it was my Champions League debut with the atmosphere and all that.

“It was even more special as the lads come through with three points.

“They are the games you want to play in – the Champions League, the Premier League and all the big European games.
