Jak Alnwick thinks Rangers were badly lacking in their Scottish League Cup semi-final tie against Motherwell at Hampden, which the Gers lost 2-0.

Rangers dominated the opening 45 minutes, but could not score and paid the price when Louis Moult came up with two superb strikes for Motherwell in the second half.

It was a fiesty encounter as Rangers felt several refereeing decisions failed to go their way and Ryan Bowman elbowed Fabio Cardoso, with blood streaming down the Gers defender's face, but avoided a sending off.

Boss Pedro Caixinha was sent to the stands and Alnwick admits nobody on the pitch did justice to the Rangers shirt.

"There haven't been many positive things said [in the dressing room]. We know we weren't good enough from start to finish", Alnwick told Rangers TV.

"Game plan, we had nothing.

It was a big chance for us to get into the final and we know that nobody was good enough on the pitch today.

We had chances where we got in down their wings a few times and we just didn't have that cutting edge that was needed.

"There were little moments when you thought we were going to score, but we didn't really test their 'keeper.

I can't remember their 'keeper making a top save so that's the most disappointing thing", the goalkeeper added.

Motherwell will now take on Brendan Rodgers' Celtic in the final of the Scottish League Cup as they look to cause another shock.

For Rangers, a chance to bounce back arrives on Wednesday evening when the Gers play host to Kilmarnock, where Steve Clarke has just taken over, at Ibrox.
