FC Groningen director Hans Nijland admits it would serve everyone’s interest if Leeds United linked winger Mimoun Mahi leaves the club in January.

The Moroccan winger still has a contract until 2019 with the Dutch outfit but there have been disciplinary issues with him this season and there are suggestions that he wants to leave Groningen.

Leeds have been one of the clubs who are believed to be interested in signing the 23-year-old and Groningen director Nijland admits given everything, Mahi should leave the club as he does not appear to care about the team’s interests in any more.

He lashed out at the player, who has been suspended by the club, and insisted that the winger’s indiscretions have exceeded all limits and the club had to discipline him at some point.

Nijland told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: “He might be playing for a transfer, but he is forgetting the team’s interest.

“For all the parties, it’s best if he gets a transfer.

“His decency and his behaviour has exceeded all limits and our credibility was at stake.

“The playing squad also expected us to intervene.”

Mahi has scored five goals in nine appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, but it seems patience is running out at the club due to his off field shenanigans.
