Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy thinks that if Antonio Conte does not pick Michy Batshuayi in his starting eleven in the EFL Cup against Bournemouth in midweek then the Belgian will be devastated.

Conte has regularly preferred other options up front to the former Marseille man, who has seen his playing time restricted and has been linked with a January transfer window exit from Stamford Bridge.

But Batshuayi has worked hard to make an impact when introduced off the bench and Cundy thinks the Belgian would be crushed if he is not given the chance to face the Cherries.

And with Alvaro Morata being eased back from injury, Cundy sees the Spaniard being on the bench for the EFL Cup tie.

"I think Batshuayi will be absolutely devastated if he doesn't get his chance in the League Cup", Cundy said on Chelsea TV.

"But it's not about him, it's about the club.

"It is difficult to say Batshuayi. Morata has had a bit of a back injury, but he's had ten, fifteen minutes [against Southampton], that might be enough to open his legs up and make sure he doesn't pick up an injury. He may well be on the bench, Morata."

Chelsea, who face almost mission impossible to retain their Premier League title this term, are still involved in three cup competitions and will be eyeing booking an EFL Cup semi-final spot on Wednesday evening.
