Rangers striker Eduardo Herrera has revealed his admiration for Chelsea defender David Luiz, who he feels is a tough opponent.

The Mexico international joined the Gers from Pumas on a three-year deal in the summer and has thus far turned out 19 times in all competitions for his new employers, scoring twice.

Herrera also has nine caps and three goals for Mexico to his name and it was while on international duty that he came up against Luiz.

The 29-year-old, who came face to face with Luiz during Mexico’s 2-0 defeat to Brazil in a friendly in June 2015, explained that the former Paris Saint-Germain man ranks as his favourite when it comes to players he has faced.

“I’ve played against a lot of players, whom I like”, Herrera said on Rangers TV.

“But I think the player I like and was also a tough player to play against was a defender, it was David Luiz.

“I played against him in a friendly match with Brazil.”

Luiz, who is in his second spell at Chelsea, has not featured for the Blues in the Premier League following their 3-0 loss to Roma in the Champions League in October.

While it has been claimed that Luiz’s relationship with Antonio Conte is strained, the Chelsea boss is explained that the Brazilian is not playing due to an inflamed knee.

Luiz has been linked with leaving Stamford Bridge in January, with Juventus and Real Madrid interested in his services.
