Newcastle United have agreed a loan deal with Anderlecht for Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

The striker has struggled for game time in the present campaign and has been linked with a move away from St James' Park in the winter window.

Bordeaux, Hamburg and Brighton have all been credited with showing interest in Mitrovic, but it seems Anderlecht have won the race to sign their former player.

It has now been claimed this morning that the Magpies and the Belgian giants have agreed on a loan deal regarding the Serbia international.

It is also believed that Mitrovic prefers a move to his former club, whom he left in the summer of 2015 to join the English outfit.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez last week said that the 23-year-old will not be sold to a Premier League club, thus dashing Brighton’s hopes of signing him.

The Magpies seemingly want to replace Mitrovic with Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, who has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.
