Manchester United defender Eric Bailly will return to training on Friday and could be in contention to face Sevilla in the Champions League next week.

The centre-back has been recovering from ankle surgery and has been out of action since November, when he picked up the problem while on international duty with the Ivory Coast.

One of Jose Mourinho’s first choice centre-backs, Mourinho has been hoping that Bailly will be able to return in time before the Champions League resumes and it seems there is a possibility.

According to El Chiringuito TV, the defender will return to training with the senior squad for the first time since suffering the ankle injury close to three months ago.

And it has been claimed that there is a chance Bailly could feature in the first leg of Manchester United’s Champions League last 16 tie against Sevilla next Wednesday night.

However, it will largely depend on how the defender performs in training over the next few days and how his body reacts to the increased workload.

There has been speculation that Mourinho has not been happy about Chris Smalling and Phil Jones’ recent performances and he could opt to draft Bailly straight back into his line-up if he receives the go ahead from his staff.

While he has recovered from the ankle problem, his lack of training is likely to be the main concern for the staff at Manchester United.
