Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti believes his side were too defensive for his liking against Chelsea on Wednesday night at the Nou Camp.

A 3-0 win for Barcelona at the Nou Camp confirmed their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals and knocked Chelsea out of the competition.

A brace for Lionel Messi and another goal from Ousmane Dembele were good enough to take care of business for Barcelona at home against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side.

Barcelona’s early goal forced Chelsea to be more attacking than the first leg and Barcelona had to show defensive resoluteness to keep the Blues out for the 90 minutes.

Umtiti was happy to put in a more solid defensive performance, but he believes Barcelona should have played more on the front foot and camp inside the opposition half.

However, he admits that a good defensive performance against Chelsea will help them going forward in the Champions League this season.

Speaking to beIN Sport, the Barcelona star said: “We tried to defend well, but we defended too much for my liking.

“Our game should be far ahead up the pitch, inside the opposition’s half but the most important thing was the qualification.”

He added: “We did suffer, but it will serve us well in the games to come.”
