Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has revealed he has all but accepted that defender Toby Alderweireld will leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Spurs have been unable to agree a new contract with the Belgian centre-back and he has been attracting attention from a number of clubs, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has begun to overlook Alderweireld in his matchday squads, despite the defender being fit to play, in a sign that he is already moving on with his planning.

And Jenas has accepted that when it comes to the Belgian defender, he is leaving in the summer, though he does not feel it will necessarily be a big blow.

"I've kind of already accepted that Toby is going", Jenas said on BT Sport Score.

"The way that everything is going and the way the market looks like, he's not going to sign. So he looks like he's going.

"But because of how well [Davinson] Sanchez has played this year…

"Don't get me wrong, I still think he is one of their best players, but you look at Sanchez and think not much has changed in Toby's absence", he added.

It remains to be seen how much Tottenham may ask for Alderweireld and whether they will be prepared to sell to domestic rivals in the shape of Manchester United.
