Craig Gordon has backed Moussa Dembele's decision to take a Panenka style penalty against Rangers at Hampden, believing the Bhoys were already so dominant in the Scottish Cup semi-final tie it was the time to try it.

When Dembele took the penalty in the 52nd minute, Celtic were already 2-0 up against their fierce rivals, who had been reduced to ten men with the sending off of Ross McCrorie just seconds earlier.

The Celtic striker made no mistake with his Panenka, making it 3-0; Olivier Ntcham then put the gloss on the win 12 minutes from time when he also converted from the spot.

Gordon, who was unable to look when Dembele stepped up to take his penalty, nevertheless backed his Celtic team-mate's decision to do it.

The goalkeeper told Celtic View: "I didn’t realise Moussa hit a Panenka penaltyI never saw it because I don’t look.

"He doesn’t do to many of them in training actually.

"It’s a great piece of skill and it takes a bit of bottle because it can easily go wrong.

"At that stage in the game we were already dominant so if you’re going to try it, that’s the time to do it.

"Hopefully he doesn’t do too many of those", Gordon added.

Celtic's win over Rangers has booked a Scottish Cup final meeting with Motherwell and leaves the Bhoys firmly on course to complete a historic double treble.

They can seal the Scottish Premiership title when they travel to Easter Road to play Hibernian on Saturday.
