Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Nolan insists that it is flattering for him to hear about interest from Championship clubs such as Sunderland and Leeds United, but he is determined not to spend time thinking about rumours.

The 25-year-old has featured in 40 of his side's 42 League One matches this season, scoring nine goals and setting up six more for his team-mates.

In the process the English midfielder has helped his side put up a strong case for promotion to the Championship next season. The Shrews are third in League One at present with 82 points from 42 games, leading fourth placed Rotherham by nine points.

Nolan's performances have not gone unnoticed with Norwich City and Ipswich Town also showing interest in securing his services, besides the Whites and the Black Cats.

While the player insists that the interest in him from such renowned clubs is flattering, he further admits that his sole focus is currently on Shrewsbury.

On the interest shown in him, the midfielder said: “It is flattering – it’s good to get that recognition.

“But it’s all rumours. You can’t do nothing about them or control them.

“We all, as players, even Doigy [Chris Doig assistant manager] and the gaffer [Paul Hurst], want to go to the highest level possible.
