Leeds United legend Eddie Gray is sure Barnsley will be desperate for points at Elland Road this afternoon as they look to survive in the Championship.

Leeds have been in dire form since the turn of the year, but a good start to the season has helped them to avoid getting dragged into the relegation dogfight towards the end of the campaign.

Barnsley on the other hand are 22nd in the league table and are two points away from safety, having a played a game fewer than the teams around them in the Championship.

They need something from Elland Road in the local Yorkshire derby today and Gray is expecting Barnsley to put in one last big effort against Leeds.

The Leeds legend feels the Oakwell outfit could struggle to survive in the Championship this season if they fail to get something in their bag from their trip to Elland Road.

Asked what kind of game he is expecting, Gray said on LUTV: “Blood and thunder and I think that’s the way they’ll approach the game.

“In a way, even though they have a game in hand and are not far away from the teams above them, it’s their last chance saloon.

“If they don’t pick anything up and the two teams above them win, they can more or less say good night to the division.”

Whites head coach Paul Heckingbottom was in charge of the Barnsley side that lost 2-0 to Leeds at Oakwell earlier in the season.
