Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has stressed the need for his team to keep winning their games in the Premier League, though he insists that it would be surprising if Tottenham Hotspur slip up in the battle to secure a top four spot.

The 32-year-old, who has been at the heart of the defence in his team's last four games in all competition, believes that things have looked positive for last year's champions as they have won three and drawn one of those four games.

What has been even more positive for the Pensioners, according to Cahill, is the fact that both their strikers Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata have come good, even adding to the scoresheet in the process.

The need though will be to continue on the right way, as they give themselves the best possible chance to slip in to the top four, though the task, as the England international feels, will be tough.

The last couple of wins have been good for us and now with both strikers getting on the scoresheet it’s a bonus", Cahill told his club's official website.

"Some individual performances out there on Sunday were a lot more like the standard we expect from ourselves.

"I felt we managed the game very well in the second half, we didn’t show any nerves, we kept going and managed the game until the end so that was good.

"All we can do now is try to win our games, the gap is big, you’re looking at some very good teams above us and I’d be surprised if they slipped up."

At present five points separate Chelsea from Tottenham, with both teams scheduled to play another four league games this season.
