Liverpool legend John Aldridge has raised the prospect of the Reds fielding 17-year-old midfielder Curtis Jones against Stoke City on Saturday.

The Reds crushed Roma 5-2 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday evening, but suffered an injury blow when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced off.

Liverpool already have Emre Can and Adam Lallana out of action and want to make sure they do not lose any of their fit midfielders to injury before the second leg in Rome.

They have a Premier League clash against Stoke at the weekend and Aldridge thinks 17-year-old Jones could handle the Potters.

Aldridge said on LFC TV, when discussing promoting Jones for the game against Stoke: "He wouldn't be out of place against Stoke, would he?"

Jones has been in good form for Steven Gerrard's Under-18s in the Under-18 Premier League and the UEFA Youth League.

The teenager made the senior Liverpool matchday squad for the Reds' Merseyside derby draw against Everton earlier this month.

It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp will hand him his debut against Stoke.
