Former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan believes that Artur Boruc could have become the best goalkeeper in the world had he been more disciplined.

Boruc joined Celtic in the summer Strachan took over as manager, joining initially on a loan deal but with an option to remain at the club on a permanent basis.

He quickly hammered down a spot in the side and stayed with Celtic until a 2010 move to Italy with Fiorentina.

Strachan is a firm fan of the natural goalkeeping ability Boruc, currently at Bournemouth, possesses, and feels he could have been the world's best if he had been more disciplined.

The former Celtic manager told Open Goal: "I think Arthur could have been the best goalkeeper in the world.

"I think he had everything – well, nearly everything.

"Apart from discipline. And to be the world's best goalkeeper you have to be disciplined.

"Unfortunately Arthur didn't have that.

"Arthur thought football and party went hand in hand.

"For a certain period you can get away with it, but there is a time it will catch up with you.

"He's still playing now, at Bournemouth, but I've got to say he was a fantastic signing for Celtic."

Boruc won three Scottish league titles at Celtic, along with two Scottish League Cups and one Scottish Cup.

He joined Bournemouth, initially on loan, at the start of the 2014/15 campaign and helped the Cherries win promotion to the Premier League.
