Rennes president Oliver Letang has revealed the club’s interest in holding on to Sunderland loanee Wahbi Khazri for next season.

The Tunisian joined Rennes last summer from Sunderland on loan after the north east club were relegated to the Championship and has rekindled his form in France.

Scoring eleven goals in all competitions this season, Khazri has been a key player for Rennes and the club have been more than happy to see the contribution he has made this term.

Letang admits the attacker has added something different to the squad and the club have helped him to rediscover his attacking instincts this season after a difficult time in England.

And he revealed that he has already been in talks with the player and his representatives over keeping him at Rennes for next season.

Letang was quoted as saying by French outlet MadeInFoot: “His future will depend on him. We are very happy to have him as he has an exemplary mentality and is full of enthusiasm.

“Wahbi has found an environment in which he has flourished, he has been repositioned as an attacker, he enjoys a lot of freedom on the pitch and he feels fulfilled.

“He is good and of course there have been discussions with Wahbi and his representatives.”

With Sunderland relegated to League One, Khazri is unlikely to consider a return to the Black Caps despite having a contract until 2020 with the club.
