Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Steven Gerrard as their new manager.

The former England and Liverpool captain has agreed to take charge of the Gers and he has signed a four-year contract at Ibrox in a signal he sees himself at the Scottish giants for the long term.




Gerrard insists he is delighted and honoured to have been given the chance to take over at Rangers and he wants to deliver success to the club.

He told the club's official site: "I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.
 


"I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this club has achieved", he added.

Details of Gerrard's backroom team at Rangers will be announced in due course, the club have confirmed; Gary McAllister has been tipped for the job of his number two.

Rangers director of football Mark Allen insists that Gerrard well understands what he is walking into at Ibrox and is now expecting an exciting time ahead.

He also stressed Gerrard's ambition aligns well with the club.
