Rangers director of football Mark Allen has conceded that the Gers have a good amount of work to do in the transfer market over the course of the summer.

Steven Gerrard is due to take charge officially as manager from 1st June and the Liverpool legend is expected to oversee a significant revamp of the squad at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed the signing of Scott Arfield from Burnley on a four-year deal on Monday morning, Gerrard's first signing at the club, and Allen makes no bones about the fact that work on the playing squad is needed.

But the director of football is coy on how the summer might unfold.

"There's a fair bit work to be done, there's no secret in that", Allen admitted at a press conference.

"Obviously we've begun today with the announcement [about Arfield joining] and we'll see what manifests itself over the coming months now.

"We'll see [if there are radical changes].

"We'll see what the summer brings."

Rangers have a number of players under contract who are expected to be moved on, while there is also no word on whether the club will try to keep a number of players on loan at Ibrox, including Russell Martin, Jason Cummings and Sean Goss.

The Gers do though have an agreement in principle in place to keep Jamie Murphy, who signed on loan from Brighton in the January transfer window.
