Former Premier League midfielder and ex-Scotland international Barry Ferguson has been left baffled by West Ham United's decision to part ways with David Moyes.

The Scottish tactician took over at the London Stadium in November and led the Hammers out of deep relegation trouble in the Premier League to a 13th place finish.

But West Ham have not opted to renew Moyes' contract and have parted ways with the Scot, choosing to head in a different direction as a club.

The Hammers approached Paulo Fonseca, but he wants to stay at Shakhtar Donetsk, while Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has now appeared on the club's radar.

Ferguson is stunned by West Ham choosing not to keep Moyes on and questioned what the Hammers' expectations are as he feels they are not even a top ten team.

"What do they expect? What are their expectations? Are they a top six team? No chance. Are they a top ten team? I don't think so", Ferguson said on PLZ Soccer.

"What else do they want?

"The guy has come in and he has done his job with his backroom staff and he has kept them in the Premier League – what is that worth?

"Who are they going to get who's going to do a better job?" he added.

Manuel Pellegrini and Unai Emery have also been mooted as potential options for West Ham.
