Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has turned off Arsenal and Chelsea by his excessive demands and arrogance during negotiations, it has been claimed.

Antonio Conte is unlikely to be Chelsea manager next season regardless of what happens in the FA Cup final against Manchester United on Saturday and the Blues have been scouring the market for a new manager since the turn of the year.

For a while it seemed Chelsea had zeroed in on Conte’s replacement and Enrique was touted as the man who would go on to replace the Italian at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Chelsea had a series of meetings with Enrique and his representatives in January and February, but according to Spanish daily Marca, the Blues were turned off by the Spaniard’s arrogance.

It has been claimed that the treble winning coach made excessive demands and key Roman Abramovich aid, Marina Granovskaia, was left unimpressed by Enrique’s attitude.

Therefore, Chelsea stopped the negotiations with the former Barcelona boss and looked for other options to replace Conte at the end of the season.

Arsenal also had a series of meetings with the Spaniard and they had the same feedback on the 48-year-old and pursued other targets as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.

Enrique is keen to return to top level management after a sabbatical, but it seems at least two Premier League clubs were unimpressed by his attitude.
