Premier League outfit West Ham have expressed their desire to speak with former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini about their vacant manager's post.

Reports in the 64-year-old's native country Chile have suggested that the man concerned has already signed a contract with the Hammers, but a deal is not yet done.

Pellegrini is currently in charge of Chinese Super League side China Fortune, joining in August 2016 after being sacked by Manchester City.

West Ham are without a manager after they decided not to renew the contract of David Moyes, in spite of the Scot guiding them to Premier League safety and helping them finish 13th.

Co-chairman David Sullivan has pledged to appoint a manager who has "a proven level of success at the highest level" and Pellegrini fits the bill having won the Premier League with the Citizens and also guiding the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2016.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez also continues to be another person interesting the Hammers, though they have conceded that getting the Spaniard out of St James' Park will be difficult.

Reports had also suggested that Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Fonseca had held discussions with Sullivan on Monday, though he signed a new contract to extend his stay in the Ukraine.
