Former Manchester United striker Danny Webber has stressed the importance of a fit Romelu Lukaku appearing for the Red Devils in the FA Cup final later today at Wembley.

Lukaku has been out of action for the last few games due to an ankle injury and Jose Mourinho insisted on Friday that his availability for the cup final will be a last-minute call.

The former Chelsea striker scored against the Blues at Old Trafford earlier in the season and is by far Manchester United’s top goalscorer with 27 goals in all competitions in his first campaign at the club.

Webber stressed the importance of Lukaku in Mourinho’s system as the Manchester United manager has always shown a penchant for playing a physical striker as the focal point of his sides.

The former forward pointed towards the obvious improvements made by the Belgian and believes a fit Lukaku will be an asset for the Old Trafford-outfit.

Webber said on MUTV’s FA Cup Final Preview show: “In Jose’s style of play, there is always a striker as the focal point.

“At Chelsea he had [Didier] Drogba, at Inter he put [Diego] Milito down the middle and sacrificed [Samuel] Eto’o in the wide areas.

“For United, Lukaku is the man. He has improved a lot this year and his goal return is second to none at the club.

“A fit Lukaku is top draw.”

The Belgian suffered FA Cup heartbreak at the hands of Manchester United in 2016 when Everton lost to Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils in the semi-final at Wembley.
