Former Liverpool star Craig Johnston believes that the Reds should keep reinforcing their squad with quality players if they want to get their hands on trophies.

Liverpool have not won any silverware under their German manager Jurgen Klopp, despite reaching the final of the EFL Cup and the Europa League in his first season in charge.

But the Reds now have a chance to change that as they have successfully reached the Champions League final this season and are all set to face defending champions Real Madrid on 26th May.

Johnston feels that the Liverpool's players and the manager have done a wonderful job throughout the season and the owners need to back the team from the top with timely recruitment.

The 57-year-old was quoted as saying by beIN Sports: "Instead of naming individual players to come in, the club itself and owners have to up their game a bit to match what the players, the manager and the supporters are giving them.

"These guys are playing their hearts out and playing beautiful football, but we need reinforcement and that comes from the vision from the top.

"That's where we have to lift our game a little because if we don't, it will be recognised.

"We have to keep bolstering the squad with quality and class.

"That's how you became a true champion going forward."

Klopp on Saturday will look to end his trophyless run with Liverpool in Kyiv against Real Madrid, which is perhaps the most important game of his spell with the Reds.
