Former Rangers star Hugh Burns thinks that Steven Gerrard's biggest problem at Ibrox could well be offloading those players he does not want to keep.

Gerrard is due to take charge of the Scottish giants from 1st June and is taking Gary McAllister with him as his assistant.

He is expected to make big changes to the playing squad at Rangers and Burns believes Gerrard will already have a good idea of who he wants to sign for the Gers.

"I am pretty sure he will have players earmarked to come up and make the team better, and that's what we need to do", Burns said on Rangers TV.

"We need to bring players in that are better than those there right now, no disrespect", he added.

But the former Rangers star thinks that Gerrard could struggle to send those players he does not want on their way, especially if they are on lucrative contracts with a substantial period still to run.

"There will be players moving on.

"I think that will be the biggest problem for him; [there are] a few players well under contract", Burns added.

Gerrard has been handed a four-year contract at Rangers and excitement is already building amongst the clubs fans, with hopes high the Liverpool legend can make the Gers competitive once again at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.
