Manchester United linked defender Samuel Umtiti has indicated that he will be staying at Barcelona beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

The French star’s future at Barcelona has come under the scanner because of the prolonged discussions over a proposed new deal for him at the Catalan giants.

Barcelona and his representatives have been in negotiations for several months over a new contract but an agreement is yet to be reached, leading to speculation over his future.

Jose Mourinho is said to have made it clear that he wants to take Umtiti to Manchester United and the Premier League giants are believed to be prepared to offer him a lucrative contract.

However, the France international stressed that he has already told Barcelona what he wants and indicated that unless something drastic happens he will be playing for the Blaugrana next season.

Asked if he wants to extend his contract with Barcelona, Umtiti told French sports daily L’Equipe: “That’s a discussion I had with them and I made it clear what I wanted.”

Probed if he will be staying at Barcelona next season, the defender said: “Oh yes! I am at a club who fulfilled my dream to play there and that’s it.

“Now I am still under contract so for me to leave, they either have to throw me out of the door or I decide to leave.”
