Everton have probed the possibility of signing Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is a Napoli target this summer.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been impressive in Italy, since joining Pescara in 2015 and his performances at Sampdoria this season have put him onto the radar of several sides.




Napoli have identified Torreira as their long term successor for Jorginho, who is Manchester City’s primary target this summer, and they have been in talks with his representatives.

The Serie A giants have been confident of signing the 22-year-old for some time, but it seems they are about to face competition from England for the Sampdoria midfielder.
 


According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Everton have probed the possibility of signing Torreira and are considering taking him to England this summer.

New director of football Marcel Brands is set to take his post at Goodison Park next month and the club’s recruitment team will forward their recommendation on Torreira to the Dutchman.

The midfielder has a €25m release clause in his contract and Everton are not expected to find it hard to fork out the money should they formalise their interest in the Uruguayan.

Torreira is currently in preparations with the Uruguay national team for this summer’s World Cup.
