Atalanta are prepared to take up the option to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini permanently following his successful loan stint this season.

Aston Villa signed the Italian goalkeeper from Hellas Verona in 2016, but despite playing regularly in the first half of that season, he was loaned out to Atalanta on an 18-month deal.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper received very few opportunities this season at the Serie A club, but Atalanta are prepared to sign him on a permanent deal this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta have decided to take up the option of signing him from Aston Villa and are ready to pay the previously agreed €3.5m fee to the Championship outfit.

Gollini made just seven Serie A appearances for the club this season, but they were enough to convince the club hierarchy to keep him at the club for the long term.

Atalanta are expected to soon contact Aston Villa and reveal their interest in triggering the clause to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent contract.

The 23-year-old will be hoping that he gets more opportunities to impress once Atalanta buy him outright from the Villans this summer.

Originally from the Fiorentina academy, Gollini signed for Manchester United in 2012, but he soon returned to Italy with Hellas Verona two years later.
