The agent of Newcastle United target Stefan Sturaro has denied being in contact with Serie A pair Atalanta and Genoa.

A transfer scramble is threatening to break out for the Juventus midfielder, who could be on the move away from the Italian champions this summer.

Rafael Benitez is claimed to want to take Sturaro to St. James' Park, but there is considerable interest in the midfielder from within Italy.

However, Sturaro's agent Carlo Volpi has played down talk that a move could quickly happen by denying having heard from either Atalanta or Genoa.

He told CalcioAtalanta: "To date there has been no contact with Atalanta.

"I repeat, today there is nothing, if not mutual esteem between Stefano and the Atalanta coach.

"I also learned from the newspapers about interest from Genoa, but they also have not contacted me", Volpi added.

The 25-year-old struggled for playing time at Juventus this season and clocked up just 614 minutes of football in Serie A, while he only appeared for 234 minutes in the Champions League.

Juventus have Sturaro, who has been capped by Italy at senior international level, under contract until the summer of 2021.
