Roma have taken several steps back in their pursuit of Arsenal and Everton target Steven N’Zonzi, who is hesitating over a move to Italy at the moment.

The French World Cup winner wants to leave Sevilla this summer and has been entertaining offers to switch base in the ongoing transfer window.

Roma sporting director Monchi is interesting in taking him to Italy and has been counting on the relationship he had with the player when he was in a similar role at Sevilla to make the difference.

However, the midfielder is hesitating over giving his nod to a Roma move and according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A giants have pressed the brakes in their pursuit of the Frenchman.

For the moment, Roma are not sure whether the 29-year-old is keen on a move to Italy and there are suggestions that he is encouraging his English suitors, especially Arsenal, to make a move for him.

Unai Emery worked with N’Zonzi at Sevilla and the Frenchman is hopeful that the Arsenal manager wants to reunite with him at the Emirates.

Everton are also interested in the player, but for the moment Arsenal are his preferred choice even if the Gunners are yet to make a concrete move.

Monchi has indicated that Roma are considering other targets and for the moment the club have put a lid on their pursuit of N’Zonzi.
