New Newcastle United signing Federico Fernandez has insisted that it is new challenge for him at St. James' Park and one that he is enjoying as he looks to meet his new team-mates and the staff.

The 29-year-old was snapped up by the Magpies from Swansea City in the final hours of the Premier League's deadline day for an undisclosed fee and put pen-to-paper to a two-year deal.

Fernandez has previous experience of playing under Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez while he was at Napoli from 2011 to 2014.

It will therefore be a reunion for the two, with the new boy insisting that he is excited about the challenge that he is going to face in his move.

"It was a long day but I’m really happy to be here", Fernandez told Newcastle's official website.

"It’s a new challenge in my life and I’m very excited to meet all the players and staff here."
