Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has given Liverpool a boost by claiming that Nabil Fekir will likely not leave this summer; the Reds would be unable to rival European clubs for the Frenchman's signature due to the early closure of the Premier League transfer window.

Fekir, who was involved with Les Bleus during their triumph in Russia last month, was the subject of an offer from Liverpool this summer, while Chelsea were also linked with the attacking midfielder.

However, the Frenchman returned to the Groupama Stadium and paraded the World Cup trophy around before the club’s opening game of the season against Amiens despite not being named in the match day squad.

Premier League clubs can no longer buy Fekir this summer, but could rekindle their interest in January, and Aulas does not see anyone else coming in for the player now.

"All players want to join big clubs and we will have the same attitude with Nabil as with his former team-mates", Aulas told OL TV.

"We will have to wait until the end of the transfer window. But he will stay at 95 per cent.

"We've seen the love of the fans for him. Lyon is a great city of football", he added.

The comments will come as a huge relief to both Liverpool, who would have been unable to rival European clubs for Fekir if a move was made this summer.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have all been linked with Fekir this summer.

The Ligue 1 side started their league campaign on home soil with a 2-0 win over Amiens at the weekend, owing to inspiring performances from Memphis Depay and Bertrand Traore.
