Former Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa turned down a move to West Ham United as he wanted to wait for an offer from Lyon, according to French outlet Foot365.

Lyon's Nabil Fekir was linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, though a deal eventually didn't materialise with the French international now expected to stay at the Groupama Stadium beyond the summer transfer window.

West Ham approached Ben Arfa and offered to take him to the London Stadium, but the Frenchman wanted to wait for Fekir to leave Lyon so he could replace him.

Ben Arfa is currently a free agent after being released by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract in June.

The attacker failed to make even a single appearance for PSG last season and has been on the lookout for a move that would allow him to rejuvenate his career.

He spent time in England with Newcastle and Hull City before returning to his country France to join Nice.

Ben Arfa could have returned to England if he had accepted West Ham's offer.

The Hammers were one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer, bringing in as many as eight players during the course of the entire transfer period.
