Juventus are set to send out a strong signal of their desire to keep Chelsea target Daniele Rugani by renewing his contract.

Chelsea chased Rugani's signature during the Premier League transfer window this summer and new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is a big fan of the player he worked with at Empoli.

The Premier League giants could return to the chase in January, but Juventus are digging in and Rugani is close to signing a new contract.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Rugani is set to put pen to paper to a five-year contract.

The deal will see the Italy international take home €3.5m per year.

And Rugani putting pen to paper to a fresh contract in Turin will send out a big signal that Juventus have no intention of selling him in the near future.

The Italian champions view Rugani as a key part of their future plans and a defensive star in the making.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will abandon their interest in Rugani.
