Hearts manager Craig Levein has confirmed that Rangers have continued to hold talks to sign Kyle Lafferty this summer.

Steven Gerrard wants to bring in one more striker to Ibrox this summer and the former Rangers hitman has emerged as his top target for the rest of the window.

Hearts have already rejected a bid from Rangers for the 30-year-old striker but the Glasgow giants have not given up and are still hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign him.

Levein revealed that discussions between the two clubs have continued over Lafferty’s proposed move to Rangers but he refused to provide any more details on the talks.

"We're still speaking to Rangers about the situation", the Hearts manager was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I don't want to go into any details."

The former Norwich hitman is said to be keen on a return to Rangers but Levein insisted that Lafferty has done little to disrupt proceedings behind the scenes at Hearts.

And he insisted that the striker joining Rangers is not a foregone conclusion.

"He seems happy enough", he continued. "I've not had any problems with him.

"He certainly looked to be smiling on Saturday anyway, that's for sure.

"We're in discussions all the time. Obviously the situation is not of our making and we'll see what happens.

"There's no point in me going over any details. Things are ongoing. It's not inevitable."

Lafferty joined Hearts last summer from Norwich and scored 19 goals in 42 appearances last season.

He netted in Hearts' win over Celtic last weekend.
