Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes Patrick Bamford needs to wait for his turn as it will be difficult to replace Kemar Roofe in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting eleven.

Roofe has played a key role in Leeds’ good start to the season and has scored two goals in the opening two games, making him the undisputed number one striker in the squad.

Leeds paid big money to sign Bamford from Middlesbrough in the summer, but while he scored against Bolton in midweek, the former Chelsea man is yet to make a league start.

Gray admits that Bielsa will have to make a choice between the two striker at some point in the season, but for the moment it is impossible to replace Roofe in the starting eleven.

The Leeds legend has conceded that the big money signing can do little but wait for his opportunity to start in the Championship at the moment.

Asked about the selection dilemma between Roofe and Bamford, Gray told LUTV: “Well it could be, but who’s going to displace Kemar Roofe just now.

“And the system he plays there’s only one man up.

“Patrick Bamford, delighted for the boy, he did well the other night and he scored his goal, but he will realise that he’s got to bide his time like a lot of other players.”

Bielsa has been generous in his praise for Roofe’s performances at the start of the season and it remains to be seen when Bamford gets the nod to start.
