Celtic legend Chris Sutton says that Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers is throwing CEO Peter Lawwell under the bus.

The fallout from Celtic's failure to reach the Champions League group stage, following their exit from the competition at the hands of AEK Athens, has continued.

Rodgers has bemoaned the lack of new signings and suggested deals are not being done by the board.

The Northern Irish tactician has also accused some in the media of now working to damage his relationship with the Celtic board.

Sutton insists the media are only reacting to comments Rodgers has himself made and believes the Celtic boss is throwing his CEO Lawwell under the bus with his transfer criticism.

"There's not a media agenda against Brendan Rodgers", Sutton said on BT Sport.

"The fact is the media work off the back of what Brendan Rodgers had said and the day before the AEK game he said the Celtic board aren't getting deals done.

"Every interview since then he's said the same things.

"So it's alright saying people are trying to dismantle that relationship [with the board]. He's the one who's saying these things.

"How is Peter Lawwell feeling? Every press conference he is being launched under the bus by Brendan Rodgers", the ex-Celtic hitman added.

There is still time for Celtic to do deals to strengthen Rodgers' hand, with the transfer window open in Scotland until the end of the month.

Departures could happen too however, with Dedryck Boyata keen to leave and Moussa Dembele on Marseille's radar.
