Virgil van Dijk has hailed Liverpool's hard fought 2-0 win away at Crystal Palace and insisted the Reds possess an amazing team and manager.

Liverpool headed to Selhurst Park on the back of a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham United and were looking to continue with their winning momentum.

The Reds took the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time through James Milner.

Crystal Palace saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka sent off with 15 minutes left, the Palace man guilty of bringing Mohamed Salah down when he was clear through on goal.

Sadio Mane then sealed the deal for Liverpool in injury time, going on a long run and eventually rounding the Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy.

Van Dijk admits Liverpool had to work hard for the win and says he always knew Crystal Palace would be direct and tough.

"It’s a very tough game. We knew before the game it would be. I don’t think the big teams ever win here comfortably. I’m happy with a clean sheet. I think a well-deserved three points", he said on Sky Sports.

"We know how direct Crystal Palace are looking for [Christian] Benteke and then the other striker. It’s always going to be tough but we were ready for the fight."

The Reds defender also hailed his team and boss Jurgen Klopp and insists the side must go for every piece of silverware this term.

"We have an amazing team and manager. We practice every day on how to get better. We showed a lot of good things today – we need to be proud of ourselves today.

"We've got to try to win everything. It's been a while but we don't need to think too much ahead.

"We've only played two games, it'll be a very long road and a tough year."

Liverpool have now made it two wins from two in the Premier League, boosting talk of a title challenge.
