Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that he remains grateful to everyone at the club for the support he received during his spell on the sidelines due to an injury last season.

Gundogan, who became Pep Guardiola’s first signing at the Etihad when he joined for a reported £20m in the summer of 2016, had a lengthy injury layoff before returning to action only in 2017.

The German dislocated his kneecap during training in May and missed Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign while also undergoing surgery to return to prime condition.

The midfielder, who suffered a huge injury blow after signing for Guardiola, revealed that he remains grateful to all the people who supported him through a difficult time of his career.

"I enjoy playing at Manchester City. I'm satisfied right now and well on the way to getting back into shape", Gundogan told WAZ.

"The leaders of the club were always behind me in the difficult phase and I had complete support. I do not forget something like that”, he added.
