Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy let Lyon know he would be willing to pay €45m for highly rated young midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, but Spurs' proposal was bettered by an unnamed top four Premier League club later in the summer.

Ndombele has been marked for big things, but Lyon do not want to lose the 21-year-old yet and have stood firm against his departure.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Levy told Lyon at the beginning of the summer that Spurs would pay €45m for Ndombele.

Lyon were not willing to play ball and later in the summer a bid of €50m arrived from an unnamed club in the Premier League's top four.

The early closure of the Premier League transfer window on 9th August came to Lyon's aid and they were able to see off the bid for Ndombele.

But the English side in question have promised to return for Ndombele in future.

With Tottenham fans of the midfielder, it could mean a Premier League battle for his signature when the transfer window opens again in January.

Lyon may resist the departure of their promising midfielder once again though.
