Former England striker Chris Sutton has indicated that Marcus Rashford is not playing enough football at Manchester United to warrant a regular place in the England team.

Rashford has been a regular part of the England set-up since he was called into the squad ahead of European Championship in 2016 and played in the World Cup in the summer.

He has again been called up to the squad ahead of the friendlies against Spain and Switzerland this month but Sutton believes the striker should not be a nailed down starter for England.

Rashford has struggled to nail down a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up at Manchester United for some time and was back on the bench after starting the first league game of the season.

Sutton has been batting for Watford captain Troy Deeney to get a look-in with England and believes at the moment Rashford could easily make way for the Hornet.

Responding to quips that England have better options than Deeney up front, the former Celtic man wrote on Twitter: “[Jamie] Vardy has retired and Rashford isn’t playing regularly.”
