Former West Ham United star Steve Lomas thinks that Manuel Pellegrini will take time to adapt to managing the Hammers, stressing that it is a different ball game to bossing Manchester City.

Pellegrini led Manchester City to the Premier League title in the 2013/14 campaign, along with guiding the Citizens to success in the EFL Cup twice, and managed a legion of stars at the Etihad.

West Ham tempted Pellegrini back to the Premier League this summer and backed him in the transfer market with around £100m spent on new players.

But there are worries around the London Stadium after West Ham lost their first four league fixtures.

Lomas however has faith in the business West Ham did in the transfer window and feels Pellegrini must just get used to managing the Hammers.

"For Manuel Pellegrini, managing West Ham is a different ball game to managing Manchester City, where he inherited a very strong squad with top, top players from Roberto Mancini. It was a different scenario there", Lomas, who played for both the Hammers and Manchester City, explained to West Ham's official site.

"It will take time for Pellegrini to get things the way he wants them, and he has had a few issues to deal with, including losing important players to injury like Manuel Lanzini.

"I’m sure things will turn around. We did sign better players in the transfer window, but it takes time for them to settle into the Premier League and to get used to each other.

"I certainly believe [Andriy] Yarmolenko will become a good player for us, and you can see Felipe Anderson has quality, but the Premier League is a different challenge for them to get used to", the former Northern Ireland international added.

The Hammers take on Everton following the conclusion of the international break, before further league fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively.

Given the difficult fixture list, the prospect of West Ham losing their opening seven league games has been floated, something which would likely place Pellegrini under significant pressure.
