Derby County striker Martyn Waghorn has admitted that he is relishing the opportunity to face Manchester United at Old Trafford in an EFL Cup clash later this month.

The Rams will face Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils in the third round of the EFL Cup on 25th September after wins over Oldham Athletic and Hull City in the previous rounds of the competition.

Frank Lampard’s men have endured a promising start to the season and are currently in fourth place in the Championship table on the back of three successive wins since their loss against Millwall.

Waghorn, who joined Derby from Ipswich Town in the summer, made his senior debut as a Sunderland player against the Red Devils in a 4-0 loss at home on Boxing Day in 2007.

The striker has admitted that he is looking forward to playing against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"I've played against them before – at Sunderland, I made my debut against them, but I've never been to Old Trafford yet", Waghorn was quoted as saying by Derbyshire Live.

"So it's one I'll be looking forward to”, he added.

Derby will play three league games, against Rotherham, Blackburn Rovers and Brentford respectively, before they travel to Old Trafford for the clash against Manchester United.
