Liverpool summer signing Naby Keita has revealed that he is the type of person who likes to improve on personal records every year, but insists that he is a team player at the end of the day.

Keita has taken the Premier League by storm ever since his arrival from RB Leipzig in the summer and has played a part in all of Liverpool’s games so far this season.

The Guinean has impressed with his performances and has been tipped as being tailor made to carry on the legacy of Steven Gerrard’s iconic number eight shirt at Anfield for years to come.

The former RB Leipzig midfielder is yet to score his first goal in Liverpool colours, but he explained that he is happy to help the team out in whatever way he can.

However, the 23-year-old also added that he has a habit of trying to improve on his personal best every year, but insisted that results are always the number one priority and that he will always be a team player.

“First and foremost, I should say that I’m very much a team player and I always think about the team first”, Keita told Liverpool’s official magazine.

“The Premier League is different to other leagues where I have played and everybody knows it is very tough, but I will do my best to beat my own personal records.

“I’m the kind of person who thinks that if I score eight goals in one season my objective must be to score nine goals in the following season.

"That’s the kind of mentality I have”, he added.

Keita is expected to play an integral role during Liverpool’s trip to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.
