Eddie Gray has conceded that Leeds United would have preferred to have their top players fit for the home game against Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Leeds scored an 89th-minute equaliser at Millwall through Jack Harrison to earn a point at the Den on Saturday and are still top of the Championship at the moment.

The Whites remain unbeaten in the league this season but their only defeat under Marcelo Bielsa came in the EFL Cup when Preston knocked them out in the second round.

Leeds will host Preston in the league on Tuesday night and Gray admits that their opponents have already shown that they can be a tough side to beat in the ongoing campaign.

The Whites are still missing Pablo Hernandez, Kemar Roofe, Gaetano Berardi and Patrick Bamford, out with injuries, and the Leeds legend admits that they would have liked to have their top players fit when playing Preston at Elland Road.

Gray told LUTV when asked about Tuesday night’s game: “Preston will prove to be a tough nut to crack.

“They have already done it this year. It will be a tough game but with a completely different line-up.”

He continued: “We are still suffering from injuries and at home, normally you need your biggest players because teams to sit in behind the ball and make it difficult for you.

“And we know Preston are good at that, so it will be a difficult game.”
