Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that he was not aware of Eunan O’Kane’s leg break that the midfielder suffered while on loan at Luton Town in League One.

O’Kane, who was deemed surplus to requirements at Elland Road following the arrival of Bielsa in the summer, joined Luton on a loan deal until January.

However, the injury suffered by O’Kane during Luton’s 1-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday has forced the midfielder to return to his parent club in a bid to try and receive the best possible attention to recover from his problem.

The 28-year-old had impressed during his handful of appearances for the Hatters, but has now suffered a double leg break that damaged his tibia and fibula.

Bielsa was asked about the injury in a press conference and was surprised by the news, having not been told. The Argentine was quick to express his sadness.

“I was not aware of that. I am very sad about it and sad for him”, Bielsa said.

“I am ashamed to find this out.

"I should have got this information faster and that's all I have to say”, he added.

Leeds will next face Preston North End at Elland Road on Tuesday night in the Championship.
