Hamburg legend Uwe Seeler has insisted that former Leeds United striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga should be a certain starter at the German giants.

Lasogga spent last season on loan at Leeds, but was inconsistent and returned to Hamburg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

There were question marks over his future and he remains a player who goes and out of the starting eleven at Hamburg, but his last performance has come as a statement.

He came on at the break against Heidenheim at the weekend with Hamburg trailing 2-0 and scored a hat-trick to win all three points for the German outfit.

Seeler insisted that Lasogga is a player worth putting up with it and there is no reason why a striker of his quality should be sitting on the bench.

He feels that the striker adds a spark to the team and helps his team-mates to play better when he is on the pitch.

Seeler told Germany daily Bild: “I would always put up with Lasogga.

“He would always play with me.

"I have little sympathy for anyone who puts such a striker on the bench.

“Pierre deserves a chance to play from the start.

"He is a striker who can make a difference. The team need such a player.

“He makes his team-mates better when in a battle.”

Lasogga scored just ten goals in 31 appearances for Leeds in the Championship last season.
