Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that Leeds United’s deep connection with the people of the city played a key role in convincing him to move to Elland Road in the summer.

Leeds pulled off a coup when they convinced the much heralded Argentine to come to England and take charge of the club, who have been a middling team in the Championship over the last few years.

The Whites have made a terrific start to life under the new manager and following their win over Preston on Tuesday night, they are sitting at the top of the Championship on 18 points.

Bielsa admits that the connection Leeds enjoy with the people of the city and their importance to the local area was a key reason behind his decision to move to England.

He indicated that he wanted to work at a club of Leeds’ tradition as he wanted to feel the passion of British football.

Explaining his reasons for joining Leeds, Bielsa said in a press conference: "Leeds have similar aspects to Marseille and Bilbao.
