Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa believes that scoring goals can always be a confidence booster for a number 9 and the double Tyler Roberts added against Preston North End will do him the world of good.

The 19-year-old, who failed to make it to the first team at the start of the season in the presence of star players such as Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe, has now burst into the first team scene in the absence of the pair.

Record summer signing Bamford is expected to be sidelined for four months, while 25-year-old Roofe has also missed the last two games with injury.

Roberts has grabbed his opportunity with both hands in their absence, scoring two among the three his side managed against Preston North End on Tuesday.

Praising the teenager, the veteran head coach said that the most important aspect of Roberts' game is his ability to create chances to score and as he scores he will prove himself to be an important part of the team.

"When a number 9 scores it always gives him confidence. In both games he played he was a link to the opponent’s box", Bielsa said at a press conference.

"He did’t score against Millwall but against Preston he scored twice.

"The important thing is that he creates chances to score and then when he scores more goals he will become an important player."

Roberts has also featured in two EFL Cup games, though he failed to hit the back of the net.
