Barcelona are keen to watch Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City linked midfielder Frenkie de Jong in action in the Champions League before taking a decision on whether to try and sign him.

The 21-year-old central-midfielder has emerged as one of the most sought-after young players in Europe, with a number of top clubs interested in snaring him away from Ajax.

Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on him and Tottenham and Manchester City have approached Ajax with their interest in taking him to England in the upcoming transfer windows.

Barcelona have also been keeping a close watch on De Jong and are very much interested in signing the young Dutchman.

But they are keen to wait a bit longer and according to Catalan daily Sport, they will take a final call in December on whether to pursue their interest in the 21-year-old.

The Spanish champions want to assess his performances in the Champions League group stage before taking a decision on whether to get serious about signing him

The Catalan giants are not worried about competition from other clubs as De Jong is claimed to be interested in moving to Barcelona.

A move in the January window is unlikely however, as the player wants to stay at Ajax until the end of the season.
